I'm studying to be a psychologist and have thought about seeking some help from a psychiatrist. I know that they keep records of what you discuss with them and that there is patient confidentiality, but is there any way if I see one it will come back to haunt me later when I want to become a psychologist? Will they tell me I can't become one because I saw a psychiatrist back in 2010? or will I have trouble finding a job because I saw one and that's kind of what I want to become?

Let me tell you that if you cannot find a job helping people because you yourself needed help then this world isnt made up of humans..lol. The thereapist I have been seeing not only is awsome! but she herself seeks counseling. I believe that some of the best therapists are the ones who needed need therapy themselves. Makes them more compassionate I think. They are more understanding of whats going on and because they are venting to someone on a regular basis. Listening to peoples problems and concerns all day can make anyone crazy! Bieng that said I dont think there is anything wrong with you seeking help for yourself. Remember you want to be menatally healthy and ready to be able to really be there for someone else:)

Most psychologist need to see psychologists themselves. It is completely normal. Go

ing to therapy helps people become more compassionate and can shape the way that they practice therapy themselves. Also, if you're going to be a psychologist then you need to work out what's going on in your life before you start practicing. If you become a therapist and you yourself are torn up, then how can you help other people??

I highly suggest that if you need a psychiatrist then you should go! They can only do good things for you and your future. So please, take that step and get the help you need. :)

People who need psychotherapy make the best psychologists :) It will not affect your career goals.
