So I've decided to do my psych paper on multiple personality disorder. I'm wondering the difference between it and schizophrenia. Also would you think I could pull off writing the essay in the perspective as though I have multiple personality while giving information and citing sources?
Thanks for any help!!

The proper name for that is now Dissociative Identity Disorder or DID. It has been discounted by some medical professionals as an actual disorder, but some people are still being diagnosed with it.
Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder characterized by delusions, hallucinations, incoherence and physical agitation. it is classified as a 'thought' disorder" 3 and often first appears during late teen years or the early 20's.
Dissociative Identity Disorder [DID] is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a condition in which a single person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities (known as alter egos or alters), each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment." 4 DID was originally called Multiple Personality Disorder -- a term that is still in wide use.
Schizophrenia can be inherited or a person may be born with it. Multiple personality usually develops after a traumatic experience in one's lifetime. The mind creates a different personality to escape too, so that the original personality doesn't have to deal with the grief or guilt of the traumatic experience. Another big difference between Multiple and Schizophrenia, is that the original personality is always present while one has schizophrenia. Multiple Personality Disorder victims constantly switch their personalities.
Might be a bit confusing, but I hope I helped answer your question.

Well psychology books will tell you (as mine does) that some people are hesitant to call it a disorder because it can be faked. We act like different people on the internet all the time, so it wouldn't be too hard to act like completely different people ALL the time. You could say in your paper that though some people may show signs of having multiple personalties (more than two) that some psychologists are still hesitant to call it an actual disorder. It's hard to actually fake schizophrenia, but not too hard to pretend like you have several different people in you. I'm not saying that people don't actually DO. I'm just saying in my own opinion it would be easy to fake.

You might want to visit the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and find the classification manual, the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual). The DSM IV lists all mental health diagnoses from schizo to multiple personality to OCD to bulimia etc...

I'm not sure about writing your paper from mult. personality disorder perspective. It depends on the teacher/professor and whether you can do it in a sympathetic and tasteful way.
Good luck!

The individual revel in of DID varies broadly from more than one to more than one. All approaches of special considering that they're created through that character and tailor-made to the folks abuse stories. The best approach to recognise what DID is like in your cherished one is to invite them. Treatment for DID may be very triumphant, nevertheless it takes years. Not all multiples opt for to combine, btw, so in case your thought of "sucessful" is "now not more than one" be mindful that your cherished one would possibly not opt for that target for themselves. Therapy might nonetheless be regarded sucessful, however your cherished one might nonetheless be more than one. Overall, DID has a status for being very treatable. Switches are almost always caused through whatever, however you and your cherished one might not be in a position to spot precisely what triggers special switches. The cause can also be very delicate- a detailed phrase or scent for illustration. Generally switches are induced while whatever occurs that the process perceives as probably threatening. Not continually despite the fact that- a few approaches have constructed mother or father alters, and sexual alters, and so they pop out as the will for them arises- so parenting will deliver forth a parenting modify, and intercourse will deliver forth a sexual modify and so forth. As in your final query, i am conflicted as to the way to reply it. On one hand, its now not a well thought to move watching for alters. Its nice simply to go away the process on my own. However, if this can be a concern wherein protection is primary (say, an modify desires to do whatever enormously dangerous) it may be primary to get a mature character, ideally the host ahead. The best factor you'll do is recognize whoever is out, and ask to talk to the modify you want. (For illustration, "Terry, I must talk with Frank, are you able to cross get him for me? Its very primary") You can not drive them to modify, however asking almost always brings outcome in a main issue. -Neb
