Well at my school (I'm yr 9 btw) we have a lecture on self harm. Everyone has to go unless we go to our (VERY scary) head of year with a very good reason. My close friend in my form self harms an I don't want to go as this is a very sensitive topic for me. I've tried explaining this but still have to go. But in the talk I will break down, cos its gotten rally hard for me to deal with my friend. Please help, how can I make my head of year let me out of this lecture? Also please don't tell me not to run away from my problems, to educate myself etc. I am very well educated an I'm not running away from problems it's just a really big issue and this talk will not help. Thank you in advance xxx

Ask your parents to get you out of it. Explain to your head of year that you know a lot about self harm already and you know you will break down and cry during the lecture as this is a very sensitive topic for you and if they have any leaflets or anything you would be happy to read them but you don't want to break down in front of everyone. Your parents is a good card to play though

Technically, if you cannot get out of it, you are looking for a distraction - something that still lets you appear attentive, so how about pushing the envelope the opposite way and making detailed notes throughout, try and follow every detail to such an extent that your head is down, mind is focused & you only really see the page in front of you.

I think the only thing you could do is tell your Head of Year, or form teacher, or, if

you have student support you can tell them. tell a teacher at school you trust, that's going to be the only way... stay strong <3
