It's also known as Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Anyway, i'm writing a book about a guy who has it.
and i can't seem to find it anywhere on these research sites, but..
is it possible for someone to, at a specific time each day, turn into someone completely different?
for example. Let's say a guy is all sweet and nice and all that fun crap, and then at EXACTLY one am he turns into a vicious asshole...
yeah.
so help me out?

DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) is a coping mechanism created by the patient as a child. They use it to escape from what happened to them that was extremely traumatic. Like, maybe their parents sold them into prostitution as a child, and forced them to do it for the money. Their parents never cared about them, they just wanted the money, and didn't look out for their well-being.

This is an example. I'm not sure if they turn at a certain time of day, they usually aren't aware that they have changed or become different but they experience the symptoms that they are aware of.

This book has been written, lol, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde?

Dissociative Identity Disorder is, I think, triggered by feelings, emotions and events. Each personality splits off and 'specialises' in handling a specific set of emotions and activities. It's really strange to see it in action. I once saw a fellow service users with a diagnosis of DID, laying a table. As she did so, she had a conversation going with her 'alters'. She said 'lay that straight, it's untidy', then, in a completely different voice 'you ignore her, dear, she's the bossy one'. It was super strange to watch.

Anyway, back to your question, it would in theory be possible for changes to happen at a certain time, but this would be dependent on that individual being in a triggering situation for the personality switch to occur. Does that make sense? You'd need to really create the perfect scenario to enable the other alter to emerge.

Good luck with the book, I look forward to reading it.

No it usually doesn't work that way. It's triggered, usually, by intense emotions as it is a coping mechanism. Other personalities emerge to deal with (usually negative) emotions such as hate, anger, jealousy, fear, embarrassment. Time of day doesn't usually trigger an emotional response. However, something traumatic during his childhood continually happened at 1am and he came up with a personality to "take over" for him during this situation, then being awake at 1am or being aware that it's 1am could cause a personality swap.

It's not really like that... but I have one who is taking a class at the local college so she comes out every Tuesday at 6..... and I have 1 who has certain TV shows she likes and she used to come out to watch those but now I DVR them for her and she watches while I sleep. Yes, I have been diagnosed, yes I am in treatment.. we are learning how to cooperate.
