I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 when I was 12, I'm 21 now and I work FT, however I do have FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act- which allows me to take up to 4 days in a work week off and get paid for those 4 days however, we only get to take up to 480 hours off in a year) and I have that because of my Bipolar which makes working sometimes hard for me... I guess I want to know if I can still get SSI and work or would I need to quit my job inorder to qualify for SSI... and if so.. how much would I get paid a month... (guestimate) ...btw I'm from Jersey if that helps.

I am on disability for bipolar disorder and, unfortunately, you can not work full time and keep disability. They set a limit on how much you can make per month. I am only able to work PT and keep my disability, which have been a godsend I must tell you. After getting fired from my last three jobs, I couldn't hold down a regular job, so getting this money and keeping it are a very high priority for me.

Yes you can get SSI disability for bipolar, 2 of my brothers and 3 sisters are all on disability for bipolar disorder. I also got disability for bipolar disorder but had to drop it due to the large amount of money that came my way, and I don't have to work any more anyways.

Go to your local SSI office and get the paper work to fill out. You would need to get done working to qualify, if your working there going to tell you that you can't get SSI. Talk to your doctors and you might want to get yourself a lawyer who deals with SSI disability, you don't pay him unless you win. The money is retroactive from the day that you first file for SSI, so you'll get a large check depending on how long it takes to get SSI. Usually with in 2 weeks of winning your case you'll get a check in the mail.

So talk to your doctors and see a lawyer it's free consultation. See what you need to do in Jersey, I'm sure each state is different.

You CAN get SSDI- not SSI( that is for poor people who have never worked)- my mom gets SSI for bipolar- I am on SSDI for depression, anxiety and panic attacks so yes it can be done but you have to be unable to work which I am due to my episodes_ I get agoraphobia in work situations and freak out - I was a nurse for 6 years and a very good one but one day it just all caught up with me and I couldnt work anymore.

As an educator specially education for the previous 9 years, i know that for the period of New Mexico, finding out could have shown that his different behaviors (that are patently related to his bipolar sickness) could qualify his popularity into marvelous courses. A 504 plan (in my opinion) purely delays the inevitable. Your newborn ought to qualify now and how long is his college going to "wait" in the previous they locate out that he's not retaining up along with his grade point? Early detection is the biggest to assisting your newborn so he won't ought to war as he keeps with the aid of college. proceed to have your newborn evaluated. do no longer supply up!!! Your newborn merits the appropriate no remember what!

Bipolar disorder CAN be totally disabling. The VA has determined that I am totally and permanently disabled because of it.

You just need to find a Doc that will document that you are disabled and away you go.

It is foolish to say that "just" because you "only" have Bipolar disorder you can work. The two statements don't necessarily follow.

You can't get SSI because of BiPolar - that just means you're manic/depressive and may need medication and/or therapy but you can work and earn your own living. You have to be disabled for SSI

I dont believe you can get SSI for Bi-Polar disorder. I know that I have Bi-Polar, Panic/Anxiety syndrome, Obsessive Compulsive disorder, and borderline turrets. If I cannot get SSI which I have applied for I really dont know how you are going to get it. Bi-Polar is a treatable disorder. If you are not on meds you need to be. They have me on Buspar, and Lexapro and those medications give me the Serotonin in need to help with my chemical imbalance. SSI usually only helps with untreatable problems.
