I'm sure you'll get a lot of answers from various people with various levels of expertise. Some of those answers may provide you with some good information and be very helpful, but there is one person who is best qualified to tell you the answer - your psychiatrist! The main reason for this is your psychiatrist has your medical and psychological history, while the users of Yahoo Answers do not.

If you don't know why you are on the medications you are on, and you would like to know, please ask your psychiatrist. Please please please don't be shy about this. As a patient, you not only have the right to know, but it may be quite helpful for you to become better involved in your care.

Well it seem like you are being treated for bipolar disorder and an anxiety disorder. Often most bipolar patients find themselves taking at least two if not up to five different medications to treat the multiple occurring symptoms of bipolar. Bipolar causes depression, mania, and sometimes anxiety. You could also have ADHD. Also, most of your medications are good for people with low energy or fatigue or slowed thinking. You are on two meds that have a stimulating effect.

Wellbutrin is used to treat depression. It is an anti-depression. It is also has a more stimulating effect with low sexual side effects. It is also used to treat people who want to stop smoking. It is said that it might help with ADHD but not officially.

Abilify is a newer type of anti-psychotic drug. Usually mood stabilizing drugs are used to treat bipolar but now some anti-psychotic drugs are prescribed too. Abilify is unlike most anti-psychotics because it is thought to lower chemical levels when they are too high, and increase them when they are too low. Also, Abilify has a stimulating effect unlike all other anti-psychotics. Most anti-psychotics make you feel very slowed down and have the zombie effect. Abilify does the exact opposite; it stimulates you and makes you feel energetic and alive. It is primary used to treat mania, the rather psychotic and fast paced thinking caused by the manic side of bipolar disorder.

Lastly, I had to research a bit on the Inderal. It is FDA approved to treat reduces autonomic nervous system arousal (ie palpitations, hyperventilation, sweating etc), however in mental health issues it can calm anxiety. It is a beta-blocker, a medication used for mostly physical effects of fear and panic situations. I believe it calms the flow of adrenaline which stimulates the stress response.

What seems to me is that you have bipolar disorder with some sort of panic or anxiety disorder. But unlike most people, it has a actual physical symptoms with your heart rate rising and breathing accelerating. That is what the Inderal with control. The Abilify will control the mania, and the wellbutrin the depression.

I don't understand why your doctor didn't tell you what condition you have, how could you not know? Either way this is what these medications are used to treat. For a more accurate diagnosis ask your psychiatrist what you have.

I suffer from bipolar, major depression and social anxiety disorder. I take abilify, lamictal for bipolar , xanax for anxiety, prastiq and prozac for depression. I have tried many different combos of drugs and still fall back into depression often. I was also given seroquel to help the anxiety and to sleep. I feel like it's a never ending battle but keep trying new drugs to help me get a hold of the depression. I have also done weekly therapy but that didn't help either. Keep trying until you find something that works, they are constantly coming out with new meds. Keep your head up, I know how hard is can be to cope with everyday life. Hope this helps.

What should I avoid while taking bupropion?

Drinking alcohol with bupropion may increase your risk of seizures. If you drink alcohol regularly, talk with your doctor before changing the amount you drink. Bupropion can also cause seizures in a regular drinker who suddenly stops drinking at the start of treatment with bupropion.

Bupropion may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.

Next time, please ask your doctor but sounds like you have panic disorder stemming from bipolar disorder of schizophrenia.
