Lamictal is a mood stabilizer, and the lexapro is for anxiety/depression.

They are perfectly fine to take together, and are low doses. The Lamictal should be gradually increased until you reach the dose that is effective for you (usually a minimum of 150-200mg).

Lamictal does have a possible serious side effect, though RARE, called Steven-Johnson Syndrome. Look for a rash on your upper body and legs-----if this is present when starting lamictal, or changing the dose of lamictal, notify your doctor right away.

There are side effects with ALL medications; the most common with psych meds being constipation and headache and/or dizziness. Unless the side effect is life threatening or altering, please take the meds for at least two weeks before deciding if it is going to work for you. A lot of times your body needs to adjust to the medication, and then the side effects will decrease. Do not stop the medication without your psychiatrist's instruction on how to do so.

The lexapro may be a medication that you only need temporarily for a situational depression, and it can be discontinued at a later time. This will be for you and your psychiatrist to decide together, as well as the duration of the lamictal.

Psych meds CAN be stopped, but do it under the direction of your psychiatrist to prevent withdrawal symptoms. It's perfectly okay to have to take medication to stabilize your moods, alleviate anxiety, or decrease your level of depression-----don't let anyone tell you it isn't.

Congratulations to you for taking responsibility for yourself and getting help!!

Hi, I have taken both Lamictal and Lexapro together.

Lexapro didn't work for me to ease depression and I had sexual side effect of not being able to orgasm while on the medication. That side effect went away immediately when I stopped taking Lexapro.

Now I take Abilify 10 mg (instead of Lexapro) which works okay on the depression. Not great, but not horrible either.

Currently, for bi-polar with psychosis, I take:

Geodon 40 mg (for mania & psychosis)

Lamictal 200 mg (mood stabilizer)

Abilfy 10 mg (for depression)

Lamictal did increase acne, but no weight gain. I don't have weight gain from any of these meds. Currently, I have to take some pills for acne that I got from a skin specialist. The skin specialist knows that Lamictal caused that problem.. so I'm working with my doctors to get things improved.

Other than the acne, I don't notice any other side effects from Lamictal.

I don't think Lamictal is that great of a medication because I only notice a mild improvement, but my doctor is really keen to keep me on a mood stabilizer.

Good luck finding the right med mix for yourself!

Lamictal has side effects of headaches, dizziness and insomnia.possibly acne and skin irritation, nightmares, night sweats, body aches , fatigue, memory problems, irritability, weight changes, hair loss, change in sexual appetite, frequent urination, nausea, and possibly a steven-johnson syndrome.

Lexapro can cause drowsiness, nausea, and gastrointestinal problems. Possibly change in sexual libido as well.

Yes it is safe to take together

lamictal is a mood stabilizer and lexapro will help with anxiety and depression

however I would not recommend these drugs

unless you believe you truly truly need them

and you are the judge of that, not me

they have severe withdrawl symptoms

and in the long run will hurt you more than help you

Lexapro doesnt balance your brain chemicals

it increases your levels of seratonin

i have been on lexapro before about 1 yr ago now - i changed from Eflexor xr 150mg to lexapro (the eflexor was packing on the weight that was the side effect it had on me) the thing i found with antidepressants is u have to try a few - one may work for u and not really help another. i think its trial and error until u find the perfect one for u

I am so happy, it was only a 35 minute drive ( 70 minutes total) but absolutely no sign of anxiety or panic i shopped till I dropped - brilliant! I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway

well there's side effects for each of the pills, so combining them doesn't sound like a good idea. Talk to your doctor.
