Help with Geodon? (anxiety issues)?

I take Geodon for clinical depression and anxiety, and it works wonderfully, except that it gives me a LOT of anxiety as a side effect. I've tried many other drugs which I had to stop because all of them were making me gain weight (which was why I was put on Geodon -- less chance of weight gain), but it seems instead of weight gain I am now dealing with more anxiety and it is severely interrupting my life. I talked to my doctor about this and he prescribed 1mg Lorazapam along with the Geodon and it works SOME, but doesn't totally get rid of the anxiety. Honestly, I don't want to switch medications AGAIN (so tired of the med-merry go round!!) what can I do to help relieve my anxiety? Thanks in advance.

Well. Geodon, you shouldn't be on. It's a antipsychotic. I was on it for schizophrenia and the phsyical feeling from aniexty was absolutely horrible. I had to take 8mg of kolopine just to calm down. You need to switch drugs or doctors. Anti psychotics are not good for depression or aniexty.

Hi,

I have no idea why you are taking Geodon for anxiety and depression. Geodon is an antipsychotic medication used for treatment of schizophrenia & BiPolar disorder. Whilst I know many situations where antipsychotics are used to treat other issues I have never heard of Geodon being used in this situation. Expecially if it is CAUSING you anxiety.. seems bizzare to me why you are prescribed it.

Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine, can be very addictive and should only be used for short term relief of the symptoms,

I would suggest that you need to get to the bottom of WHY you become anxious and the only way of addressing this is through seeing a therapist. Throwing pills at these problems is only a bandaid solution.

As someone else mentioned Seroquel (antipsychotic) is used widely for anxiety relief in small doses quite successfully and is not addictive like lorazepam. But again, you should be looking at the root causes of the anxiety, not just a quick fix.

Good Luck

GO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST. Pass on the meds until you do. A regular doctor is not highly qualified to diagnose BP and even if he has it right, 160mg of Geodon probably is not the best choice! I am bipolar. I have been on Geodon. You do not start the first day on 160mg. If anything, you ramp up to it over three days minimum (per the manufacturer and sound medical practice). Besides, anticonvulsants like Depakote, Lamictal, and Trileptal or Lithium are better main meds. Geodon is an antipsychotic usually used for bipolar depression. You don't exactly sound depressed. Btw, antipsychotics are routine bipolar meds and psychosis usually has nothing to do with it. Really, go see a psychiatrist!

I was having the same problem on Abilify. So they put me on a small dose of Seroquel on top of the Abilify to help combat the anxiety effects.

Btw, i am on antipsychotics because I have schizophrenia. I agree with the two comments below you shouldn't be on antipsychotics fro depression.
