For the past 6 months my life has been heading downhill, all I seem to want to do these days is stay in my room and I never go out. I don't have many friends, they have all moved away. My 3 closest friends are all suicidal, 2 living out of state and 1 in my suburb. I have spent the last few months trying to talk them all out of killing themselves and spent too many hours in the hospital with the one living here. I have even nicknamed myself "suicide magnet", it's just like I attract it, I can't escape it. Everything seems to be mounting up and the worry has really gotten to me. I have been close to have an eating disorder and a while back started drinking to solve things which didn't really help. It seems I have been dragged down with them but I cant not help because I love them all. Things have been really bad lately, I feel so alone and worthless. I've been cutting for a while but nothing life threatening. Then last week I tried to suffocate myself and I ran across a highway. Only 3 people know about these things but none live here. I refuse to talk to anyone because that means my mum finds out and I don't have the best relationship with her (she's very judgemental.) I don't want to feel this way but it seems things just keep getting worse day by day. I don't want to admit to myself that I have depression because I need to be strong for my friends. What can I do to help myself without talking to anyone? Any advice would be great thanks.

I can't answer everything, but I think you need to consider why you're surrounding yourself with these people and what effect their instability could have on you. It is not your job to take care of everyone else (a lesson I'm still learning).

You don't have to cut your friends off, but you do need to set limits and boundaries. You can be supportive and encouraging, but you cannot solve their problems and they cannot come to you for solutions.

You need to seek counseling of some sort, because it sounds like your home life is too unstable for you to get support there. Is there an option with your school or can you give mom enough details to get some help without the criticism? Put it in terms of school and motivation rather than depression and suicide, maybe?

It's hard to see the point of life when you can't find value in it...if you can't get into counseling, try and find a positive outlet to put life in perspective. Helping the APL walk dogs takes 30 minutes a week but can bring a lot of clarity.

Hold tight, sweety, and try to build strong relationships that build you up rather than pull you down.

It looks you are very tired of life . safariing depression,

Do meditation on your own

When: Whenever you are sitting with nothing to do.

Step 1: Breathe From the Mouth

“Relax the lower jaw and let your mouth open just slightly. Start breathing from the mouth, but not deeply. Just let the body breathe so it becomes more and more shallow. And when you feel that the breath has become very shallow and your mouth is open and jaw relaxed, your whole body will feel very relaxed.

Step 2: Feel a Smile

“In that moment, start feeling a smile — not on your face but all over your being — and you will be able to. It is not a smile that comes on the lips; it is an existential smile that spreads just inside. Try and you will know what it is, because it cannot be explained. No need to smile with your lips on your face but just as if you are smiling from the belly, the belly is smiling.

“And it is a smile, not a laugh, so it is very very soft, delicate, fragile — like a small rose opening in the belly and the fragrance spreading all over the body.

“Once you have known what this smile is, you can remain happy for twenty-four hours a day. And whenever you feel that you are missing that happiness, just close your eyes and catch hold of that smile again, and it will be there. In the daytime as many times as you want, you can catch hold of it. It is always there.”
