Is scratching myself self-harm?

Ok so starting this year my self confidence has been really going down, and I pick on myself a lot. Like one day I think I'm too fat, the next day I think I'm too skinny. Now I'm starting to scratch and pinch myself really hard when I think of something stupid I said earlier or when I messed up or when I look back and think of how dumb I looked/how I look at the time. Then the those thoughts stay in my head, I can't let it go, it keeps popping up and I can't stop thinking about it. Then I scratch myself more(like on my upper legs and arms, and if I'm around people I put my hands on my hips and dig my nails into myself).

I just need to know if this is considered self-harm and if you think it could get worse.

It is the very early stages of self harm, and yes, it can and will get worse if you don't seek help. Trust me, I'm been self-harming for over a year, and it is very addicting and hard to stop. Before it gets worse, you should try and find alternative ways to deal with how you are feeling. Like my doctors tried to tell me to just snap an elastic band on my wrist, instead of cutting. Maybe you could try that. Best of luck! stay away from razors or anything else that you could use to cut.

Yes, this is self harm. And dont do it anymore! Self harm is when you hurt yourself and you are doing this by scratching your skin. This will most likely get worst if u continue because if so, you are continuing to damage your skin and it wont be able to heal properly. Be confident about yourself! Dont worry about your weight too much unless its a serious health issue

Yes it is and yes it can. If you already have low confidence and pain, why would you hurt yourself even more?

If you are a teen, remember that the teen years are the absolute worst time of your life. I am surprised any of us survive it. You are struggling with so much stress, pressures, changes... Your body and mind are trying to cope but ... its hard, dealing with unpredictable hormones and roller coaster emotions.

The brain is a very complicated and delicate thing. It can get messed up and be unable to produce any or enough serotonin. This is called a chemical imbalance which is easily treated, very common and nothing to be ashamed of.

It can cause depression, anxiety, panic, obsession, self harm/self hatred, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, sleeping problems, aggression/rage, anger, phobias, fears, helplessness, hopelessness, hypochondria, ADHD, paranoia, OCD, headaches, lack of interest in things, lack of motivation/ focus and much more.

According to those who went to therapists, it doesnt help much. They are not even allowed to prescribe appropriate meds to help you get better.

Tell a dr. about all this and ask him for anti-depressants. Zoloft/Sertraline is a good one; most people thrive on it and it has no side effects. It enables the brain to function property. With antidepressants, you will be much better, happier, calmer, confident, relaxed and feel normal. What a difference it makes!!

Continue taking meds even when you feel better. You need them, so stay on them. And good luck to you!

Yeah that is considered self harm since you're attacking your body/self.
