Okay, this is going to be hard to explain so bear with me. For years now I've been having an odd occurrence when I try to sleep. When I'm just about asleep and half already dreaming about something, I will suddenly, without any warning, see (literally see!) a flash of static snow before my eyes like you'd see on a television just before it shorts out. The image is often coupled by a pop sound that can range from very faint to headache inducing. After it's over, my mind will literally go blank for a few seconds. Whatever I was dreaming about will stop and I'll usually wake up. I've tried to research this online but have come up with hardly anything. Does anyone know what this is or where I can find more information on it? I know it sounds weird but I'm really confused. I want to know what's going on.

I know this sounds like something I made up, but I promise it's a real condition. It sounds like you have exploding head syndrome.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploding_head_syndrome

Sufferers of exploding head syndrome experience a very loud cracking or popping sound, usually around when they are sleeping or falling asleep. It is often accompanied by visual disturbances like flashes of light. Nobody knows why it happens, hence why it's called a syndrome, and there's no cure for it. Some think it is linked to poor sleep patterns or extreme stress though, so you might try improving your "sleep health" or decreasing your stress level if possible.

Hope that helps!

you have defined sleep paralysis precisely. it fairly is tremendously plenty what maximum folk go through. What happens is that element of your suggestions has waked, on a similar time as section is in the dream state. it fairly is the reason human beings hallucinate etc. I used to have it almost each and every evening that have been given previous. For me, it substitute into an component results of sleep apnea. in case you snore, look at a nap study. The sleep paralysis itself is thoroughly non volatile. even with the indisputable fact that, it does component to the actuality you're having some style of snoozing undertaking. undesirable noisily snoring, or finished on apnea can do it. So can exhaustion, severe rigidity etc.

Do you get headaches with it? Have you seen a neurologist??? Could these be migraines when you sleep??? Do you have sleep apnea? Have you been tested???
