I see a PCP. She has been my dr for 10 years or so. Im on seroquel, paxil, xanax annd buspar for PTS disorder. My PCP prescribed all of these to me but advised I see a shrink. So I did and he agreed with her scripts and wrote me scripts for all meds. Well I filled my Xanax script from my PCP. It was my last refill. Well then I had a script from my shrink with a lower does and no refills. So I went to Costco to fill the shrinks script as my insurance ends at the end of July. That pharmacist gv me the ugliest look ever and wanted to know why I was filling 2 same scripts from two different drs. I told her my insurance was running out so I was trying to get enough to get by. She didnt believe me and just stared me down. she said she needed to call my PCP and my shrink to see if they both know about the scripts. It was a Satuday so she said she could call monday. well I was so scared, I took my script back and my ID and told her she's a pharmacist NOT my dr and that she shouldnt be giving me a hard time. She scared me as if I was doing some drug deal!! My question is, will she still call my PCP and shrink? (she wrote in bright pink that it was too soon to fill-im guessing she thought i was pharmacy hopping). i understand people abuse these meds but y did she treat me that way? Im scared my PCP and shrink wont see me anymore now and take all my meds away. am i over reacting?

It's important that you understand Xanax is a controlled substance, meaning it has the potential to be abused and sold as a street drug. The pharmacist has a legal and moral obligation to be suspicious, and prescriptions for a controlled substance from different providers is a red flag we're trained to recognize and investigate. That pharmacist might have been more direct than she needed to be, but her actions, from your description, seem in line with what I would expect my employees to do if confronted with the same situation. If the physicians are fine with issuing both prescriptions, it's still up to the pharmacist to use her professional judgement to determine whether the prescription should be filled or not. As to your concern regarding the PCP and psychiatrist -- if you've done nothing wrong and aren't trying to cheat the system, why WOULDN'T they see you?

I wouldn't worry about it-if need be, explain the situation to your Dr.s I doubt the pharmacist will call them.

If it is a NEW script and has a NEW dosage, Pharmacy is required to fill it.
