I am schizterphreinc see dead people, hear voices and talk to myself. I am too paranoid to leave myself or go anywhere alone as i am scared someone will try and rape and murder me. I have been raped many times before. This illness is ruining my life and my parents. I have recently started self harming and attempting suicide.I cant stop drinking booze everyday to block out my pain. I am going to tell my psychatrist the truth when i see her but will this mean that i am likely to end up on mental ward or be sectioned? I really dont want this to happen please help!

Have you not already been an inpatient on a psychiatric ward? If not, then you are in the envious position of being diagnosed with schizophrenia without a prior hospitalisation which is unheard of.

There isn't anyone on here that can tell you if you will be put in hospital but they can tell you the system.

Being sectioned is done on the basis of a risk assessment. If you are in the high-risk category then you will be sectioned. Getting sectioned is extremely difficult and they DON'T want to do it. You'd have to be a severe risk to yourself and others. They prefer to treat you in your own home if it's possible. Perhaps as a day patient.

The other thing is that if you weren't hospitalised then they won't class it as a suicide attempt, it'd be self-harming (as far as I know.) If you had tried to kill your-self and you were hospitalised then you'd be sent to talk to someone. If they let you go then they don't consider you a risk.

It's all about what you may or will do. Do you think you WILL do it? Do you plan to? Is it something that can't be avoided? What type of self-harming? These are all questions that they will ask you.

It's clear that you want to move on from this. The best thing you can do is try and get some support. Rather than worry about what the hospital might do try and see what they CAN do for you. They can give you medication. They can send you to support groups. They can rehabilitate you into society. They cam give you a nurse, monitor medication and help support you look for work. Get some help, learn to function and then live your life.

Try seeking out a local mental health charity, for example mind, for support groups and try and go to an alcoholics meeting to. Drinking won't help you.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best.

If you tell the truth to your psychiatrist, why would he want you to end up in a mental ward?

Being schizophrenic, seeing and hearing people, talking to yourself ... that doesn't make you a danger for yourself or anybody else, so there is no legal ground to put you in a mental ward. However, self harming and attempting suicide can result in a way-in into the hospital, but again, it has nothing to do with ending up there permanently, but only until you feel better.

Drinking to self-medicate can also be a reason for you to willingly go to the hospital for a while, so that you can detox from alcohol. Not only does it interfere with your brain, but it also interfere with your medication, making the symptoms of your schizophrenia even worse.

Apart from that, do you take your medication for schizophrenia and follow all your psychiatrist's instruction? If not, you should sincerely consider doing so. You could then be just as normal (or whatever it is) as anybody.

Have you ever talked to him about the rapes? You could also suffer from PTSD (post traumatic syndrom disorder) since you've went through traumatizing events being raped in the past.

No, it doesn't mean that, unless you are suicidal or homicidal.

If you were really raped multiple times, it can cause symptoms like these , and it does not necessarily mean you are schizophrenic.

A psychiatrist cannot heal you, but may offer you sedative medications that may stop the voices and seeing ghosts. The medications won't heal you.

You could check out these therapists to combine with what ever you decide to do, since they are trained in an effective healing method, and can resolve the rapes and the effects of that trauma , which might help you a lot.

If no doctor has ever tested your thyroid and other hormones levels, then that should be done, also.

Then you need to make sure you find a doctor that knows how to balance your hormones, you can find a compounding pharmacy to help you find a doctor, if they are not all closed down this year by the medical profession, who are going after everyone besides themselves, in the UK .

I hope you find the right help and healing.

Have you actually been diagnosed with schizophrenia, or are you assuming that you have it because of your symptoms? If you don't have a formal diagnosis yet, then the thing to do is share everything with the psychiatrist; it's what they're there for. But there are a tonne of conditions ranging from stress to delusional psychoses which can cause your symptoms to it is all but impossible to self diagnose, and to try and label yourself would be pointless (the idea of a diagnostic label is that it leads to treatment).

You will only ever end up on a psych ward if you are considered dangerous or threatening to yourself or others. So they won't section you just for feeling a bit unwell. If you cooperate with treatment plans and take medication as prescribed, then they will pretty much always treat you at home.

The most important advice I can give you is to relax. Everything else will sort itself out.

It is really good you wrote all you feel. You can live a normal life and there is nothing to worry.

We live in 21st century. There are no mental wards to lock people in. Now Psychiatrist practises some thing called "Assertive outreach" . People with Psychiatric illnesses are given proper support and medicine and looked after in the community itself. You have nothing to fear as most of old style psychiatric wards are already dismantled.

Please meet your psychiatrist and tell her every thing. She will diagnose and get you proper community care and medicine. Sometimes they may ask you to admit to the hospital when they need you for their observations. There are some therapy like ECT which needs the client to be admitted to the hospital for few days. Do not fear. Hope you will feel better and happy.

If you are suicidal, a psychiatric hospital would be the best thing to protect you from killing yourself 'til you feel feel better.

You seem to live in a prison. I would have gotten help a long time ago if I were you. The medication they would give you would be wayyyyyy better than the alcohol you are ruining yourself with.

It's nice to hear that you have a psychiatrist though. He/she would be the best to help you get better.

Traumatic things like being raped before are also very conducive to mental illnesses.

Of course you wont end up being sectioned, unless you are a real threat to society. Which by the sounds of it you are not. I would sugggest telling your gp or whoever and they can offer you some tablets. Just try not to be worried and gradually you will start to feel better. It will be hard but you are a really strong person for even writing al lthis on here. Good luck and best wishes for the future xxxx

If this is a troll then its 8/10

If not then I would have to say the inhabitants of yahoo answers are not really that qualified to offer mental health advice, in fact probably make things much worse.

So I would suggest going to you're doctors or try and find the boy from the sixth sense he see's dead people too and maybe able to offer advice.

Ohh and possibly stop drinking as well

If you've been honest with your psychiatrist, you would be on the proper medication to help you. You need to speak with your parents as well. If your present psychiatrist is not helping you, perhaps you need to speak with another. As with all professions, ALL do not have the proper answers. Please continue to seek one who will provide the help that you so sorely need!........♥♥

I am not able to give advice on this, but do not listen to soleilmavis as she has clearly gone fully insane

if you tell the doctor then whatever they do for you will be for the best and they will help you to get better and not feel like this anymore.
