Devin think about it how many people that actually do something with their lives continually use pot. sure many of us used it when we were younger, but grew up learned to be responsible and did something with their lives. Of course some people kept using marijuana and they did something with their life too-like get arrested, have a record that will keep them from a good job or even go to prison.

Whether or not it destroys brain cells has not been completely decided BUT it does destroy lives.

Think about the people that tell you to smoke?

Really wish that people would stop spreading the ridiculous stories concerning drugs-they only make them seem like a better idea when you realize it just not so. When I was younger I was told these stories-a girl took acid and thought she was an orange and tried to peel herself!! Come on people-it's not so.

Weed is as damaging as drinking beer and not nearly as addicting. You want to destroy a life? I can introduce you to an alcoholic -he's destroyed many-funny I can't say the same for the potheads I know-they live very productive lives (as long as it's just weed they're doing)-let's see one is a well off financial adviser in Manhattan, one is a well off auto shop owner, one owns a restaurant-the list could go on-all have been smoking at least 20 years. By the way I smoked tons throughout college and graduated with a 3.9 average and an award in creative writing-don't think it affected me much.

How many brains cells are we supposed to have-since they don't replenish-that these people that have smoked for so many years and can still function?

If you don't want to smoke weed for whatever reason then don't. That's totally fine. If you want to smoke it, but keep it in moderation, go for it! Weed isn't bad for you. It's not addictive. People don't get addicted to weed, they get addicted to having a moment where they can leave reality. There have been studies. There's no addictive effect to it. It doesn't mess with your judgement. You can control what you say and do. It's fine. The only reason weed would be be bad is because the smoke isn't very good for your lungs, but weed isn't ONLY smoked. you can eat it too. Just don't do it so much that it convinces you to do other drugs. That's where it gets bad. (Been there, done that.) But it's your choice! I mean, it's illegal (usually), so just make sure not to get caught with it. And don't do it in really obvious places. (Been there and done that too.) If you really really wanna respect your mom, then don't do it.

No, it doesn't kill brain cells. That information was based on a poorly performed experiment years ago on monkeys, and since then they've done more studies which show that it doesn't cause brain damage. It's just a really common misconception that everybody latches onto as a reason why people shouldn't smoke pot.

I am not aware that it destroys brain cells, but ong term use of marijuana changes the pleasure pathways of the brain, so that you can have difficulty experiencing pleasure from other, non drug sources, and this can take a considerable time to recover from, even partially, and it can permanently affect short term memory adversely, and shrink the emotional centres of the brain, affecting the ability to form lasting relationships.

"Omg someone help me a docter would be good?

i had a some hydro and the next day nothing seems the same ...im only fifteen and i cant let my parents know or they will kill me..heres the problem; the next day i cant seem to feel anymore. i can feel but i cant seem to feel happy or anything. for example when i hug my girlfriend i know it feels good but i cant feel the love i used to feel everything seems so empty. when i take a warm shower i feel warm but i dont feel good for being warm. when i eat a chocolate cake it tastes good but i dont get that special euphoric feeling anymore everything seems so fake. please help me i cant live like this" ~~~ Tommy F

After quitting, there will be a huge void left by the absence of drugs, and that void will need filling, so have a plan in place for when you get over the physical withdrawal symptoms, if present. Smoking marijuana is not quite as bad as tobacco for the lungs.

You should still try not to use weed though. It has negative effects on your brain as it lowers your short-term memory, learning and attention span. Not to mention it is highly illegal. There are a myriad of other reasons why you shouldn't smoke it as well.

Not only weed kills your brain cell, you can also get lip, tongue and lung cancer. Weed also makes you ugly, girl or boy, you will lose your look and will start to have lots of pimples on your face. and most of all you're gonna be a pot head and lose your entire life. you might as well kiss your own A** good bye for having a life.

How Does Marijuana Affect the Brain?

Scientists have learned a great deal about how THC acts in the brain to produce its many effects. When someone smokes marijuana, THC rapidly passes from the lungs into the bloodstream, which carries the chemical to the brain and other organs throughout the body.

THC acts upon specific sites in the brain, called cannabinoid receptors, kicking off a series of cellular reactions that ultimately lead to the “high” that users experience when they smoke marijuana. Some brain areas have many cannabinoid receptors; others have few or none. The highest density of cannabinoid receptors are found in parts of the brain that influence pleasure, memory, thoughts, concentration, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement.1

Not surprisingly, marijuana intoxication can cause distorted perceptions, impaired coordination, difficulty in thinking and problem solving, and problems with learning and memory. Research has shown that marijuana’s adverse impact on learning and memory can last for days or weeks after the acute effects of the drug wear off.2 As a result, someone who smokes marijuana every day may be functioning at a suboptimal intellectual level all of the time.

Research on the long-term effects of marijuana abuse indicates some changes in the brain similar to those seen after long-term abuse of other major drugs. For example, cannabinoid withdrawal in chronically exposed animals leads to an increase in the activation of the stress-response system3 and changes in the activity of nerve cells containing dopamine.4 Dopamine neurons are involved in the regulation of motivation and reward, and are directly or indirectly affected by all drugs of abuse.

Effects on the Heart

One study found that an abuser’s risk of heart attack more than quadruples in the first hour after smoking marijuana.7 The researchers suggest that such an outcome might occur from marijuana’s effects on blood pressure and heart rate (it increases both) and reduced oxygen-carrying capacity of blood.

Effects on the Lungs

Numerous studies have shown marijuana smoke to contain carcinogens and to be an irritant to the lungs. In fact, marijuana smoke contains 50 to 70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke. Marijuana users usually inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than tobacco smokers do, which further increases the lungs’ exposure to carcinogenic smoke. Marijuana smokers show dysregulated growth of epithelial cells in their lung tissue, which could lead to cancer;8 however, a recent case-controlled study found no positive associations between marijuana use and lung, upper respiratory, or upper digestive tract cancers.9 Thus, the link between marijuana smoking and these cancers remains unsubstantiated at this time.

Nonetheless, marijuana smokers can have many of the same respiratory problems as tobacco smokers, such as daily cough and phlegm production, more frequent acute chest illness, a heightened risk of lung infections, and a greater tendency toward obstructed airways. A study of 450 individuals found that people who smoke marijuana frequently but do not smoke tobacco have more health problems and miss more days of work than nonsmokers.10 Many of the extra sick days among the marijuana smokers in the study were for respiratory illnesses.

Effects on Daily Life

Research clearly demonstrates that marijuana has the potential to cause problems in daily life or make a person’s existing problems worse. In one study, heavy marijuana abusers reported that the drug impaired several important measures of life achievement including physical and mental health, cognitive abilities, social life, and career status.11 Several studies associate workers’ marijuana smoking with increased absences, tardiness, accidents, workers’ compensation claims, and job turnover.

I hope the "high" is worth risking your health

it doesn't do anything but give you a big craving for junk food.

but if you smoke non-stop, then the actual smoke itself may be harmful to the lungs.

But that's alot.
