The metabolism effect will depend on dosage. The medication itself metabolizes quickly, so it will kick in quickly, so expect the side effect within a week of taking it, not necessarily within the first few days - but when it does kick in, it will happen all at once, but you won't notice the gain until it's a few pounds.
It decreases your metabolism because it deals with serotonin receptors, dopaminergic receptors, adrenergic receptors, and histamine receptors. Most effect the pleasure part of the brain, which includes food drive and metabolism. Realistically, it's not the metabolism change that will cause weight gain, you will just crave more food.
