I was thinking of asking my doctor to switch me to something else and last time I spoke with him he had geodon in mind. My problem is that abilify is making me so restless, so my question to people with experience with these 2 drugs is this: will geodon cause less restlessness and how will it feel different?

Each person is different.

My experience was that Abilify gave me intensive restlessness at only 2mg. The restlessness didn't even begin with Geodon until I was at 160mg, the max recommended dose. So, if Abilify is a problem, Geodon may be worth a try.

I actually take BOTH geodon and abilify together... along with Lamictal.

Geodon 40 mg (for mania)

Abilify 10 mg (for depression)

Lamictal 200 mg (mood stabilizer)

I did take Abilify and Lamictal together without the Geodon and I was getting so agitated, too. I started skipping class in college and I was headed for a downward spiral. So I asked my doctor to put me back on the Geodon (I previously took Geodon alone).....

Basically, Geodon works really well to control mania for me. But it doesn't help very much with depression.

Then with Abilify--- well, I need the Geodon to stay centered and calm. But Abilify helps with depression. It's an anti-psychotic, and it helps me most with the depression aspect of the illness.

Lamictal makes me a little bit more calm, but I don't think it does that much. In my opinion, Abilify and Geodon are the work horses.

All these medications have been weight neutral for me meaning that I didn't gain weight on them.

Hope this helps!

Good luck!

I have taken both pills and can honestly tell you that if restlessness is your issue, Geodon would probably be the better option...i started out with abilify, and i had all kinds of side effects...one of them was restlessness...my muscles used to tense up on me and spasm at random...it was pretty uncomfortable...i also gained over a 100 pounds in just one year as a result of taking abilify...I personally prefer Geodon...it is less mellow...i don't notice any side effects, and it seems to do it's job as a mood-stabilizer...

i hope this helps..i personally recommend Geodon, but everyone is different...

i'm useful such study have not been carried out. in case you prefer to do a seek, pass to pubmed and put in a itemizing of a few meds to benefit one to antoher. I even have merely study in a pair bipolar books that this variety of artwork hasn't been carried out at involved approximately bipolar, in undemanding terms some case study with a dozen or 2 human beings. perchance extra has been carried out for schizophrenia. i know that study exhibits the older antipsychotics (pre-risperdal) artwork as properly because of the fact the recent drugs, and the recent drugs have extra hazard for tardive dyskenesia than the drug companies have been admitting. zyprexa has needless to say been the single with the main weight income - i think of it is so needless to say the worst, that they did no longer even would desire to do a discover ways to be certain that. you would be as in touch approximately tardive dyskenesia and elongated QT era as you're approximately diabetes & weight income.
